WildCharge Adaptor for iPhone and iPod Touch

The WildCharge concept uses a flat charging pad that wirelessly charges small portable devices such as mobile phones and PDAs. Currently only support for the Motorola RAZR mobile phones exist, but there are plans to release support for the iPod families and the iPhone in the near future. The technology eliminates the need for multiple charging bricks in the wall, and it can charge up to 5 gadgets simultaneously.

The iPhone and iPod Touch cases are already out for pre-review and are estimated to cost around $34.95 when released.

I thought that the concept was based on induction, but from what I can tell from the product photographs, it seems to use an intriguing direct contact connection system. Look for the metal dots on the case, and then the metal stripes on the pad itself. That said, an inductive system is likely to be very inefficient anyway.

Agree….an induction based system will be highly inefficient and so there has to be a sort of direct contact for the charging current to flow. People have been dreaming for years of going “totally wireless” – including the “last mile” of the charging process.

From where the “charging pad” gets its power is another intriguing aspect. Hope it does not need some kind of “wired charging” – just defeats the whole purpose. Solar Photo-Voltaic cells? Wireless transmission of electricity? Miniature Gravity motors?

I looked at their website and does appear to require “wired charging”, so it seems only to be practical if you have two or more devices that require recharging.
An adaptor is connected to the charging port on your cell phone; for example, and the other part of it must be between your device and the charger. I think that the adaptor may possibly serve as some kind of “conduit” to support inductive charging.

When they can charge my cell phone AND ipod i will consider buying one, otherwise it does seem to be pointless.
