iPod Touch and iPhone Remote Control Software for Home Automation

Arkados a home automation products company has released a reference design for making interactive software for iPod Touch and iPhone which will let you control your home electronics with just push of a buttom on your iPod. But currently as the company deals with music systems you would be able to control your music library or any integrated sound system with your iPod Touch and iPhone.
From a pdf available at the Arkados website:
“Arkados plans to release a reference design, or “system blueprint”, that will allow
manufacturers to embed Arkados chip-and-software solutions into a device that enables
the iPhone or iPod to “talk” to and control whole-house audio systems. Essentially,
when used with audio systems employing the Arkados chip, the iPhone or iPod can
function as an intuitive and colorful handheld wireless remote control from anywhere
within the home for such functions as song selection, volume control, or choosing which
room the user would like to direct music to.”

Don’t mean to sound ignorant, but does the iPhone have an RF controller? If so, that’s huge. If not, I can’t see this being too big of aremote access solution. RF is no longer king, but it is still the tech in the majority of homes.
