Recover Photos Deleted by Photo Deletion Bug/Spirit Jailbreak
Spirit is the first jailbreak for iPad, but it had some bugs, with “photo deletion” bug being the worst one. However, an update for Spirit has been released, but what if you have already lost your precious collection of photos. So, if you are one of the victims of this bug, then here we are to your rescue.
Note: This guide will only work if you have backed up your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch before jailbreaking with Spirit.
Prerequisites:
Steps to recover deleted photos:
1. Run iPhoneBackupExtractor.
2. Select the backup you took before jailbreaking with Spirit.
3. Select “Restore some or all files from backup manually”.
4. Go to Media >> Media, and check DCIM and Recordings.
5. Click Next.
6. Save backup.
Note: It can take some time to restore, so be patient.
7. Use WinSCP and go to /User/Media/, and copy-paste the DCIM folder from the backup.
8. Overwrite the current files.
Congratulations! You have got all your photos back, which were deleted by “photo deletion” bug. However, if you have not took a backup, then there is no chance to get back your photos. So, please take backup every now and then, especially before jailbreaking or installing new OS.

I made a program for Windows users to recover the images as an alternative to the paid program recommended by this and several other blogs. It’s very simple, and is really only meant for this specific incident; it won’t recover anything other than the images. http://www.earth2me.com/products/spiritrecover (My contact info is on that site if you have trouble getting it to work)
