iPhone iOS 4: Features, Release date and Download
Along with the announcement of iPhone 4, came another big news from WWDC 2010, where Steve Jobs released the iOS 4. A sneak peak of iOS 4 was given around a couple of months back, and 3 betas were released after that, but now Apple has finally came up with the real thing.
Note: iOS is the trademark name given to the routers and switches by Cisco. Another lawsuit?
The new OS has included 100 new features and 1500 new APIs for developers. We will cover key features of iOS 4, and also give a brief explanation about each feature:
1. Multitasking: This is the most awaited feature of all. However, it would be more appropriate to call it backgrounding, rather than calling it multitasking. This feature will enable users to run as many as 7 apps in background while working on current app.
2. Folders/File management: This is another important feature added in iOS 4. This will allow users to create and manage folders for better file management. Now, it is possible to install 2160 apps, while current limit being 180 only.
3. Unified Inbox: With this feature you will receive messages from multiple email accounts. You can also organize messages, and open attachments in third party apps.
4. Message search: Now you can search your inbox for text messages.
5. Photo Resize: If you send a lot of images via e-mail, and do not have unlimited data plan, then you will be happy to hear that now you can resize an image in four different size available.
6. iBooks: This is same as iPad version, but with small size.
7. E-mail Encryption: Now, iOS 4comes with better e-mail encryption, to ensure your privacy.
8. Create Playlists: Now create playlists and enjoy custom classified songs.
9. Home screen Wallpapers: Allows you to change home screen wallpaper.
10. Spell Check: iOS 4 provides you an in-built spell check for messages, e-mails, and other such apps.
11. Misc: wireless app distribution, mobile device management, SSL VPN support, and multiple exchange Activesync account.
Note: Some features of iOS 4 will not work on certain models of iPhone and iPod Touch.
Apple iOS 4 Gold Master Build 8A293 is now available for download for developers, who are are in iPhone Dev Program. It is expected to release for general public after couple of weeks. However, it is advised to jailbreakers and unlockers that they do not update to this new OS, until its corresponding jailbreak and unlock is launched.
