How to update iPod Touch 1G/2G to OS 3.1.1
Apple has released its latest version of iPod Touch firmware which now stands at version 3.1.1, if you have a older version and want to upgrade, then this mini guide will help you.
Step by step guide to upgrade iPod Touch firmware to 3.1.1
- Apple also released iTunes 9 which is the essential requirement if you wish to upgrade your firmware, Download iTunes 9 install it
- Download iPod Touch Firmware 3.1.1 all models(direct links)
- Connect your iPod Touch and select it from left panel of iTunes 9
- Now keep pressing Shift and click Restore
- Select the downloaded iPod Touch 3.1.1 ipsw file in step 2
- Wait for it to finish
Congrats you are now on latest 3.1.1 firmware
note: No redsn0w jailbreak for 3.1.1 is available yet

Hold Shift and click restore then select 3.0 software file to downgrade. Pretty much the same as upgrade.
I using the firmwave 3.1 ( now ! ) but i can’t jailbreak that firmwave 3.1 i want rollback to the firmwave 3.0 ! Who can help me !
Whenever I try to upgrade, I get a message saying “The IPod could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible.” Why is this?
ellow! i have d same problem on how to upgrade with “cooper” coz if i hint d restore butt’n it keep say’n that “D firmware is not compatible” .. somebody can help me please !
WOW shift+restore is only for PC. I was not aware that a site devoted to the ipod would not be written with macs in mind.
Long story short— I just wiped my itouch instead of updating it.
