How to Upgrade iPhone 4.0 Firmware without UDID [Tutorial]
So you are tempted to install the new iPhone 4.0 OS which brings many new features, prominent one being multitasking. Currently there is iPhone 4.0 beta OS available for download and if you are not afraid to try out betas then we are going to provide you a simple guide to upgrade your iPhone to iPhone 4.0 without UDID (Unique Device ID) registration.
UDID is given to the developers so that they can try the new firmware with iTunes, however you we will also provide you tips to get yourself UDID so as to enjoy the new 4.0 OS.
- Decrypt the firmware files for rootfs.dmg
- Open rootfs.dmg within IPSW firmware file
- Navigate to System/Library/CoreServices and copy the SystemVersion.plist file
- Remove these
<key>ReleaseType</key>
<string>Beta</string>
- Overwrite the old SystemVersion.plist file and copy back to rootfs.dmg
- Restore teh new firmware IPSW to your iDevice

Easy method for registering UDID - contact any friend developer and ask him to register UDID for you.

hey i did everything up the point where you overwrite the “SystemVersion.plist” Transmac wont let me overwrite this thing i would appreciate it if you could help me out

You need to rename the file as a zip file, then you can unzip it and see the .dmg file you need to edit

If you decrypt the .dmg you will not be able to restore it, this guide is a fake. 3asy posted a working guide in his blog today based on the redsn0w beta. Tried it and it works and activates with iTunes!!! http://www.iphonehowto.tk/
