How to make a wifi internet connection with your iPod Touch

How to make a wifi internet connection using the iPod touch:
To connect to the internet using wifi on the iPod touch, just follow the following steps:
Firstly, you should be in a wifi zone(an area where you can access wifi) or if you want to use it at your house with your residential internet connection, just get yourself a wifi router(shouldn’t cost more than $50-60) and configure it with your residential internet

Once you are in a wifi zone, on your iPod touch, go to:

Settings > Wifi > Turn your wifi ON > Select a wifi network > Key in the WEP(only if asked for) > Connect
Once you’re done with this, you should get the IP settings and be able to surf the internet with no problem.
Note: At times when you’re too far away from the wireless router or a big thick brick wall is separating you and the wifi router, your iPod might show the network as available and you would also be able to connect to it, but surfing the internet using it would become a problem. If this happens to you, don’t worry, just move closer to the wifi router and it shouldn’t pose any other problems. Happy Surfing!

This is all very useful information, but I was wondering if there were any wifi connections that didnt need a password? because on my ipod touch it gets invitations or whatever to join into new wifi connections, but so far both of them have been locked, butI heard that there are some that don’t need a password to work, I was wondering if anyone out there knew any of them? I would really appreciate the help guys =]
please E-Mail me if you have any such connections, thanks a ton!!!

I have the same problem with trying to access the internet with my new ipod touch. I go to a WIFI free zone in Paris and there are a dozen different providers listed. The one that comes up automatically is hotspot.neuf.fr and its home page asks for a user name and password. Help!!!

Hey All,

i need some help.. got and ipod touch for christmas and have belkin54g with wifi. but i have setup with connection and entered the wep key (which is correct) the network then sets up . and the wireless is in range and everything (it shows 2 bars) but when i click anything like App Store, iTunes, Safari ect it says:

“Unable to join the network”
or
“Cannot connect to the safari page”
or it asks me to choose a network, i choose it and then it simply asks for a password.. and we dont have one.. all we have is a WEP key, so i enter that and it still says:
“Unable to connect to network”

does anyone know how to fix this s**t?

thanks.. email me at:

@Liam
turning of Wi-Fi and turning it on again should fix your problem, if problem persists upgrade to latest firmware available.

@Alex
try multiple times and refer these troubleshooting Wi-Fi tips

@Carissa
When you connect to the internet for the first time it asks for a password, enter your wep/wpa key which you find by going to 192.168.1.1
login details;
username: admin
password: admin or password go to wireless tab and note down wep key.

I am planning to buy an ipod touch and I was wondering if I could plug my sprint wireless aircard into a female to female USB port splitter/converter and my ipod touch’s cord into that too… do you think I would get internet? if not could you explain what I would need to get for a home wireless router system and how the wireless router would work with a wireless aircard USB thingy through cell provider? would soooo appreciate your help, everywhere else I’ve asked either hasnt replied or has no idea what I am talking about. and I dont want to ask anyone at like best buy or sprint because they will try to sell me their most expensive products.

looking very forward to anyones response.

If you don’t know the password it’s because it’s not from your wireless router I would guess?!!(some private some you pay to access) so go buy one plug it in to your home router and Wa La you have wifi. Your wireless router when pluged in and turned on will always show that you have a wifi signal even if you internet is down or it’s not even pluged in to your router.Try using bootP,Try turning wireless internet on/off in your iPod,Try restarting iPod and or wireless router, Most of you don’t seem to know how to use your iPod so go find out and that will fix 98% of your problems.
Good luck

I find it sad there are so many questions and no answers!

To use WiFi on your iPod, you first need to have a WiFi transmitter nearby. Here in Australia a lot of Macdonalds fast food restaurants have free WiFi available. So if you are not clear about home PC networks this is a good place to start.

Once you know your WiFi is working at Maconalds (or any free, “open” WiFi connection), you can consider setting up your own home WiFi connection. For this you need a working Internet connection. Connect a WiFi Router (if you don’t already have one) - your local computer store should be able to help you.

Because you don’t want to pay for free Internet access for your neighbours, you create a unique access password. To do this you go through your Router setup proceedures which will ask you for a name to give your router (so you can distinguish your WiFi from your next door neighbours’) - this is the SSID. Then select WEP (weak) or WPA (stronger) security and enter a new password - use a mix of upper and lower case letters and numbers. This is the access password through your WiFi router.

Once you have the SSID and password, the router will appear in the list of WiFi networks on your iPod, select that, then enter the password and you will be surfing the Internet!

If you do not know the password, you could reset the WiFi router to the “as-new” factory settings, no SSID and no password, then re-enter them again. Check your router’s user manual (usually you power off the unit with the Reset button held down).

Hope this helps!

iPod touch second generation is a f*cking joke.

My iPhone connects to my Zoom router.

My Macbook does too.

So does my Windows PC…

But the iPhone Touch…????

1. Shows connected to my WiFi…with all the bars showing

2. But when I open Safari, the iTunes store etc…it states…cannot access.

WTF Apple??????????????????

After reading all the above, is there a solution to this f*cking brick of an iPod?????

This is for everyone that puts the “WAP/WEP KEY” and it doesn’t let you connect to the Safrai what you need to do is go to the ipod touch settings, wifi click on your router name, if the password is in corretly, then press the blue arrow and scroll down until you see “RENEW LEASE” press that then go to Safari and you are in, make sure you are in range of a wifi enviroment, if that don’t work, reset you ipod on itunes…and follow the steps again…have fun, any comment plz fill free to email me…CRIMSOM_DEVIL@LIVE.COM

i have an 8g touch that i got for christmas. i found that if you use the school districts letters…Williamson County Schools(WCS) followed by -WPA2, that you can hack into your schools wifi. So, here is what you do…

1. Go to settings
2. Go to Wifi settings
3. Turn Wifi on
4. Click NEW CONNECTION
5. Put the first three letters of your school district followed by WPA2. EX: WCS-WPA2
6. Choose the last option under security.
7. Put in your SCHOOL username and password. 10-digit username and 6-digit password.
8. Dont get caught.

Hope this Helped

I just purchased an ipod touch 3rd gen. and was having trouble connecting to the internet. My ipod would not recognize my router. I kept typing “admin” for my password, then I tried typing in the Encryption Key (the one that has 26 characters, numbers and letters). When I clicked on “Join” it worked beautifully. Hope this helped!!! Typing mistake on my name!!!

I had trouble with my new iPod touch 3rd gen. on my home network (WPA2). Finally solved it by changing my network wifi settings to not hide the access point. With the access point hidden I was required to select other network on the iPod and enter the network name and my rather large random PSK (pre-shared key) every time I wanted to connect. It would not remember the network name or the PSK. Not broadcasting your access point (SSID) is a good security practice and should be supported by Apple.

Ok, here is my problem. IPod touch connects fine to my WEP security network no issues. Problem is it CONSTANTLY loses the login info about every 5mins or if you let it idle at all. At which point I have to go back and type in all the info and password again. Any Help for this POS?
