Send text messages with your iPod Touch

If you have an iPod Touch, then there’s a simple way to send text messages without having an iPhone. There’s a UK-based service called ipTexter that allows you to rent a virtual phone number that receives text messages over the web. You then have an application that is capable of reading these messages for you. The service costs £7.99 a month, and then you buy text message bundles.
It’s a little expensive in my opinion, and if you look really hard, you should be able to find some free or cheaper email or web based SMS services. This company seems to be using the application as an interface to the service rather than using an email or the web.

Or if you have and AOL screen name you can use their app off the store and send text messages for free from your screen name….
this is very nice, there is another way with that email thing.
but with the email, you can’t receive any text messages so, your way is much better.x
yes you can receive text messages with email! I tried it!It works if the person adds the number your email sent it from then replies to your text message. Just use mail and u don’t have to download any software. Also, remember, never jailbreak your iPod (there is usually a better way like getting the SDK and making an app for instance).
i have an ipod touch 1st gen and i got a text messages app and its called text plus and its so easy all u need is to be connected to the wifi and then pick a name in your address book then send a message! its so easy

U can already send text msgs from email if you know the service provider, i.e. verizon is @vtext.com, etc. All the major carriers let you send txt from any email address. These are address examples below.
