Sun Decision for Java Support on iPhone
Thank goodness for some sanity, since the release of the iPhone SDK Sun have announced their intention to release a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for the iPhone. This means developers will be able to write java applications for the iPhone (and hopefully iPod Touch too), rather than using the Apple SDK.
I’m not sure that I agree with Apple’s “we’ll review all applications for the iPhone” point of view. I can understand why they would want to do so (security, integrity, ensuring the apps don’t kill the device), but it would hamper the rate of release for new applications. Then there’s plenty of opportunity for Apple to steal any patentable ideas written for the device… not that I’m saying they’d try to do that. However, its not difficult to just modify an idea someone has already created, then patent it (assuming the concept has no prior art).

The more apps available to users, the more iPhones and iPods will get sold. Seems logical to me, why review/limit those.
