Step 3 - hold shift and click restore does not work on macs (not sure about pc’s).

Instead you need to hold the alt key and click restore and it works fine.

I have an easy way to get it for free through itunes so you get the “official” software and not just parts of mirrors all over the place. THIS ONLY WORKS IF YOURE TOUCH IS JAILBROKEN. Okay so download fwchanger through installer and open the app change the firmware to 2.0 and connect it to iTunes, which will think its 2.0 so then do an update and it will say it is current. After that unplug the ipod and change the firmware back to 1.1.4 and turn off and on you’re ipod (to reset it back) and connect to iTunes again, and there will be a box that asks if you want to cancel, download and install, or just download and when you click downlaod they do not charge you. If it doesn’t work keep trying. Btw I’m on windows xp and iTunes 7.7

if shift + click doesn’t work for you try “shift+alt+click”

if you have an error make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.

I am getting ERROR 1403 constantly. I do have the most recent 7.7 itunes. What should I do now?

Does this really work? I have been reading an i figured out that some ppl get it and the others are screwed, so I just want to know what does it really do when u install this program. And if ur trying to screw a bunch of ppl over by getting others to install this to mess up their iPods. Why are u doing this. were suppose to help each other out get shit free, and not pay for it. unless ur someone who works with apple. by doing that working for apple u are violating a federal law against shareware. shareware cant be of fraud.

this does not work..i have tried restarting it. i have tried shit ..alt..and shift alt..all it does is start to update then it stops and says error

i restored my ipod and every file was deleted from it and no new software was installed either!! i pressed shift and then click i also tried before with shift alt click but as i said before nothing happened….

for macs u hold the option key down while u click on the restore then u get to select the file that u just downloaded. u should have a ispw file or what not. if u dont get that window thats let u select the file u r restoring to u r not pressing the right keys, for windows or mac users ok dont continue u will erase everything and not get the update make sure u r able to get the window where it lets u browse n select ur own restore file first. oh and this takes a long time so dont yank ur cables out if u think its hanging or frozen on “preparing ipod for update” its not frozen, my friend bought this and his took a good 15 on a fast macbook too. i didn’t use this file so cant confirm if its good or not but thats how the process goes.

To kayra: You can use Total commander.

Downgrade iTunes 8 to 7.7 and upgrade iPod 1.1.5 to 2.0 works as shown. When iTunes (7.7) is started first time, you have to rename library.itl after error occures

i guess im an idiot . nothing happens when i hold down shift in itunes except it tells me if i hit restore i am restoring it back to factory settings and i will lose everything… please help

You hold down Shift, while holding left click on Restore in iTune. It will bring up another window letting u pick which software to use/install. You need to download the program above called iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw.

Ive seen a few comments and i was stuck at the exact same thing. When you have downloaded the firmware it should come up as a Comppresed or Zipped file. All you have to do is unzip or decompress the file.Then try again. If ur on a Mac i dont have a clue. Email me to thank me or ask me other questions on BMX321@hotmail.co.uk.
